DID Kota Belud

The Administrative District Of DID Kota Belud is situated in the West Coast-North of the State of Sabah approximately 40 km from Kota Kinabalu. Its office is located about 1 km from Kota Belud town. This district covers an area approximately 1385.60 km². This district is the the largest provided with irrigation infrastructures for the cultivaton of wet padi. The total acreage for the 15 schemes in this district covers an area of approximately 4,128 Ha.

The Administrative District of DID Kota Belud is headed by a Senior Irrigation and Drainage Engineer. with 101 supporting personnels. The main duties carried out in the district are:-

• To plan and implement the Department's works in line with its policies and functions.

• To operate and maintain Irrigation and Drainage Schemes. This include minor irrigation schemes planted by farmers with small areas in order to assist their product output. The Irrigation and Drainage Schemes in the district are as follows:-

  Irrigation Schemes

The Krah Drainage Scheme with an area of approximately 1,620 ha is the only drainage scheme in the District. However this scheme has yet to be fully completed.

• To operate and maintain major urban drainage system that includes major trunk drains. Secondary drains and drains that are in housing development are maintained by the local authority. Whereas road-side drains are maintained by the Public Works Department.

• To plan and implement river conservancy works. River conservancy is a very important traditional function of DID. Works carried out include removing debris from rivers that restrict the smooth flow, river dredging and straightening. On average the Administrative District of Kota Belud conserve 37 numbers of rivers with a total length of 52 km every year.
